Boosting Engagement on Medium: Let's Connect and Share Ideas!

Chapter 1: Understanding Our Common Goals
It’s clear that we all aspire for our articles to resonate well with readers. You’re not alone in this desire; we all share a common objective.
When you think about it, our aims are quite aligned. I invite you to share your thoughts on the sections you either agree or disagree with. Highlight those areas and recount similar experiences you’ve had.
Just a gentle reminder:
- Multiple sections to highlight
- Ability to share your thoughts
I eagerly await your insights!
Let’s be honest: you’re aiming for more reads, likely in the thousands. You crave more engagement, including claps, highlights, responses, and comments—again, likely in the thousands. We’re all in the same boat.
Just as you hope for your article to go viral, remember that many others share that wish. The purpose of this article is to remind you that when you receive a notification from another writer or open your Medium dashboard, it’s not just about posting your own piece. It’s also about interacting with the work of fellow writers (smiles).
Yes, dedicating a few hours to read and engage with other writers can feel like a significant investment, but that’s the same amount of time they spend engaging with your content. While it’s nice to say that your fellow writers appreciate your work, it’s essential to recognize the time they’ve taken to engage with you before they developed that appreciation.
Understanding this perspective encourages you to invest in the Medium community. Each of us has a role to fulfill, and at its core, that involves taking the time to read and engage with a variety of content—both good and bad.
I firmly believe it’s perfectly acceptable to highlight any section of an article and express your views, even if they differ from the original author’s. It’s also appropriate to point out mistakes and suggest enhancements. Engaging in discussion shouldn’t be limited to only agreeing with someone; we can and should strive for more.
Personally, I think we’ve reached a stage where we often prefer to provide compliments and shy away from offering constructive criticism. As a writer, I find greater fulfillment in receiving comments that cover a range of opinions, rather than just “nice one.”
For instance, when someone simply says “nice one” without pointing out specific sections or if their claps are less than half of the total possible, it sends a confusing message. I’d much prefer if someone said, “I have a different experience regarding this example and disagree with your viewpoint.” If they shared their contrasting experience that challenges my points, it would be even more gratifying.
This dialogue enriches the article and makes the writing experience more rewarding. When readers can see both perspectives, they feel freer to express their genuine opinions. Ultimately, this leads to a more comprehensive discussion and a more robust article.
I look forward to seeing this new wave of engagement on my articles (and across Medium as a whole) as I work to become a writer you enjoy reading.
Thank you for sticking with me. I can’t wait to see your comments, claps, highlights, and to engage with your thoughts. Talk to you soon!
