Crafting the Perfect "Good Morning" Message for Meetings

Chapter 1: The Virtual Meeting Landscape
In the era of online gatherings, particularly post-pandemic, I have participated in numerous virtual trainings and corporate meetings. One recurring theme in these sessions is the instructor prompting, “Please let me know in the comments if you’re present and can hear me.”
Throughout these sessions, I’ve observed attendees sharing various concerns such as:
- "I don’t have the materials."
- "I can’t hear you."
- "My team handles this differently."
Simultaneously, hosts and presenters often express:
- "Who hasn’t received the handout?"
- "Can everyone hear me clearly?"
- "Please use the chat box to share your thoughts."
- "Thanks to those who have engaged."
- "I prefer not to read from slides."
- "Please mute your microphone."
- "Cameras should be on (or off)."
This cycle continues, leading to a rather predictable routine.
Section 1.1: A Solution to the Communication Challenge
To tackle this ongoing dilemma, I’ve devised a “Good Morning” message that I paste into the chat at the start of meetings:
"Good morning everyone, both attendees and presenters. I have my handouts ready, or else I would have emailed them. I'm familiar with video software, or I would have taken the time to learn it before today. I’m eager to be among the 10% who actively engage—I’m not afraid! I’m fully prepared to start at the scheduled time as indicated in the meeting invitation. My day is going well; I enjoy cookies, playing soccer, and cheering for the Carolina Hurricanes. My only aspiration is to earn an honorary doctorate. For the single attendees, my email is email inserted."
Thank you for your attention! I appreciate the brief comments and your discretion in sharing!
