Exploring Manifestation: From Vision Boards to Unexpected Gifts

Written on

Chapter 1: The Power of Asking

Sometimes I ponder whether it’s truly me or the universe steering my life. A phrase from a childhood teacher often echoes in my mind: “If you don’t ask, you don’t get.” Back then, I was baffled. She would generously distribute candies to my classmates who expressed a desire for them, while I, taught to be polite, hesitated to ask. I waited for my turn, but it never came.

Years later, the concept of asking took on a new form through the popular book The Secret, which introduced the law of attraction as a means to manifest desires. Although I felt a bit conflicted—still believing that deserving individuals naturally received what they earned—the idea of focusing on my aspirations and attracting them intrigued me. It was not about begging but rather confidently claiming what I desired. This notion seemed empowering, yet I remained skeptical.

Many individuals were yearning for fulfillment, and The Secret provided them with hope. Despite their struggles with finances, relationships, or job satisfaction, the law of attraction offered a pathway to manifest their needs and lead happier lives.

So, did I decide to give it a try? Absolutely. I created a vision board using cork, adorning it with images, quotes, and affirmations that resonated with my aspirations. Did I feel a twinge of embarrassment? Certainly. The idea of obsessively gazing at representations of my desires felt foreign to me, yet I was willing to take a leap of faith.

I sifted through magazines and old photos, cutting out snippets to attach to my board, hoping to materialize my dreams. At about twenty years old, this endeavor boosted my confidence, providing joy, though it ultimately didn’t yield the results I had hoped for. I gradually abandoned my vision board and affirmations, allowing life to unfold naturally.

Over the years, I experienced the typical ebbs and flows of life. Occasionally, my dreams materialized, while at other times, I encountered unexpected experiences that led to various outcomes.

Fast forward a couple of decades, and I found myself captivated by the trend of video vision boards. These creative movies depicted our aspirations and could be viewed at any moment to rekindle our focus. Perhaps boredom or the desire for growth inspired me; I can’t quite remember. Regardless, crafting my video was as enjoyable as my initial vision board. It featured a picturesque home by a river, fulfilling relationships, and career success.

The outcome of the movie didn’t matter; it was simply enjoyable. After daily viewings, I would forget about it until the next day, not truly believing in its potential. Yet, surprisingly, much of what I envisioned began to materialize: I acquired that charming riverside home, deepened my relationships, and experienced career advancements.

But could my achievements be attributed to the video? Had I truly manifested them? I was unsure. Life had become busier, prompting me to focus on immediate tasks rather than the law of attraction.

Only in recent years did I start reflecting on the seemingly magical occurrences in my life—small, yet delightful. They weren’t lottery wins or strokes of genius but little wonders that brought me joy.

For instance, while walking my dog past a community book exchange, I felt a spontaneous urge to reach for a book. Without even glancing at its cover, I pulled out a meditation book by Ram Dass that I had been wanting but hadn’t yet purchased. Was this serendipity, or did I manifest it? I couldn’t say for sure.

I recalled meeting a kindred spirit on a snowy beach, where we, two seemingly compatible souls, stumbled upon each other in a desolate setting. What were the odds? Had I attracted this connection?

While I remain uncertain whether my growing awareness of attraction is coincidental or intentional, I’ve recognized a pattern: the more I concentrate on something, the more it appears in my life. Moreover, if I release my attachment to a desire, it often materializes unexpectedly.

So, will I dust off my vision board and create new videos in hopes of manifesting more? No, but I will continue to take charge of my feelings and actions, embracing the rewards of my efforts while welcoming love, joy, and success—be it through serendipity or something more mystical.
