Chapter 1: Embracing Change
Welcome to the ongoing series, Letters through the Transition. These articles are designed to uplift and motivate you as you navigate this transformative phase, moving from your past to your future. Here is the second letter of the year.
As you step beyond your comfort zone, some challenges may seem manageable, while others can feel overwhelming. For instance, consider attending an upscale networking event.
Imagine you are an entrepreneur from a modest background. You’ve launched your own business and overcome initial hurdles. Yet, upon entering a high-end venue, you might hesitate. The outfit you meticulously selected suddenly feels out of place, like a costume. You hear unfamiliar terms, and the way others interact seems worlds apart.
Your body reacts; you feel like fleeing. Thoughts flood your mind, insisting you don’t belong. Your heels begin to pivot, tempted to exit the door.
Don't leave just yet.
Your mind, well-intentioned as it is, is merely trying to shield you from the unfamiliar. This situation is new territory for your brain, triggering an instinctive response.
You deserve to be in that room. Your presence is not a mistake.
I’ve had countless moments where I could have turned back, both in small and significant ways. I share this with you because I resonate with that feeling right now.
At this moment, I feel exposed. The future appears daunting, filled with uncertainty. Questions swirl: Do I fit in? Are my actions leading me astray? Am I just a punchline?
I understand the turmoil you’re experiencing.
However, there’s something unique about us. This quality distinguishes us and propels us toward our goals. We are resilient fighters.
When negativity creeps in, I admit I sometimes indulge it. But eventually, that sorrow transforms into resolve.
Cast aside those negative thoughts.
We are worthy of the future we’re striving for. Why pour your energy and creativity into the worst-case scenarios? Instead, channel your thoughts into envisioning the best outcomes. Haven’t you faced and survived the worst before?
Resilience makes recovery faster.
So, here you stand, heels aflame with the urge to escape the networking event. You loosen your collar and combat the rising panic. Instead of darting out, you notice a quiet corner and make your way to an empty balcony.
Gripping the railing, you shut your eyes tight. The protective thoughts are spiraling, causing more harm than good.
With clenched fists and a racing heart, you transform that anxiety into something empowering.
You came here for a reason. You are just as worthy as anyone else present, and even if you feel out of place, that only adds to your reason for being there. Walking away could mean missing out on valuable connections. Even if the experience turns out poorly, you will gain invaluable lessons.
How can you discover what’s possible if you don’t stay and engage?
Your anxious energy morphs into courage. Your rapid breaths become steady. You straighten your posture and turn back toward the entrance.
You return to that optimistic mindset you adopted at the start of your journey, ready to seize the moment.
Fighting your inner demons once doesn’t mean they won’t return. However, with perseverance and practice, overcoming them will become second nature. By the time you reach your desired destination, you’ll have dispatched those old fears, only to face new ones at your next level.
It may seem pessimistic to acknowledge their persistent presence, but this can be a hidden blessing. As challenging as they are, they present opportunities for growth. Even in defeat, you can learn from the struggle.
Continue to confront your fears. Keep evolving. Your past, present, and future will express gratitude for your efforts.
Let’s support one another in this journey.
