# Embracing Empowerment: A Journey of Self-Love

Chapter 1: Understanding Empowerment
In reflecting on empowerment, I find myself challenged by the question posed by Dr. Tracy Davis. For those of you following my journey, you can check out my previous entries for context. Today, I want to explore what truly makes me feel empowered and resilient.
Throughout the past few years, I have struggled to connect with feelings of empowerment. Growing up in an environment surrounded by addiction and negativity, I learned early on to suppress positive emotions. This made it difficult for me to recognize and embrace feelings of strength as I transitioned into adulthood.
As I matured, the absence of these positive feelings became the norm. Achievements felt hollow, and I often brushed them off with a casual, "So what?" This numbness has been particularly evident when I reflect on accomplishments that should evoke a sense of pride.
However, if I engage my logical side, I recognize the significance of what I’ve achieved. I’ve overcome numerous challenges, raised a child, and adapted to life in a new city. Each of these milestones has equipped me with valuable skills for navigating the complexities of life.
Yet, I still find it hard to embrace positivity. It's disheartening to see so many struggling in today's world, when no one should have to endure such hardship in 2023. The disparity of power and wealth perpetuates this cycle, leaving many feeling powerless.
Despite these challenges, I strive to maintain a sense of personal empowerment. I remind myself that my feelings should not be dictated by external circumstances. Thus, I continue to engage with my emotions and work through the internal struggles I face. This journey of self-discovery and healing is ongoing.
