Understanding the Intersection of Climate Change and Conflict
Climate change is no longer a distant concern; it has led to catastrophic outcomes, including genocide. Recent events, such as Hamas's assault on Israel and Israel’s response towards Palestine, have reignited discussions about genocide. Supporters on both sides invoke historical atrocities to validate their actions, yet they converge on one critical point: genocide remains one of humanity's most abhorrent acts. While these atrocities capture headlines, other crucial matters, like the imminent COP28 summit, struggle for attention—this summit may be our last diplomatic effort to address climate change before it becomes irreversible.
Some voices in the climate discourse, including my fellow Substack contributor Michael D. Shellenberger, argue that climate change is overstated and will not lead to global disaster. This perspective, however, is fundamentally flawed. The modest climate shifts we’ve already experienced
