In fact, that future may already be unfolding. Recent advancements in artificial intelligence have led to the creation of an AI agent named Gran Turismo Sophy (GT Sophy), which has outperformed some of the most skilled virtual racers in the popular PlayStation game, Gran Turismo. Sony revealed this groundbreaking development on a Wednesday, noting that GT Sophy exceeded all expectations set by its creators.

In its inaugural competition in July, the software faced off against four top Gran Turismo players, learning the intricacies of the race and the unique strengths of each driver. By October, it had surpassed its human competitors, achieving a level of performance described as "superhuman," according to Peter Wurman, director of Sony AI America. This AI technology can make real-time decisions, akin to skilled human drivers.

Gran Turismo, which simulates real racing experiences, has been captivating players since its launch in 1997 and has sold over 80 million copies, as reported by Reuters. Following this impressive success, Sony aims to implement similar AI advancements in other games on their PlayStation platform.

"There are many games with distinct challenges for AI, and we're eager to tackle these opportunities," Wurman stated.
