The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra: What the iPhone Could Emulate

Written on

Chapter 1: Introduction

After years of being a loyal iPhone user, I have recently transitioned to using the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra as my primary device. This change is particularly notable considering my past experiences with the S22 Ultra, which left me dissatisfied due to its Exynos chip that limited performance in certain regions like the UK. However, the S23 Ultra comes equipped with the Snapdragon Gen 2 chip, providing a vastly improved experience. This shift has opened my eyes to several features that the iPhone could benefit from. Below are five areas where the S23 Ultra outshines the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Section 1.1: Pricing Strategies

Both Samsung and Apple set high price points for their flagship models, often approaching two thousand dollars when fully equipped. Yet, Samsung stands out with its generous trade-in offers and additional incentives. They frequently provide discounts and even complimentary items like earbuds or laptops with a purchase. This customer-friendly approach alleviates the financial burden of acquiring such expensive devices. For instance, I managed to get the S23 Ultra for just £650, a deal Apple could learn from regarding its trade-in policies.

Section 1.2: The Case for Touch ID

Many are puzzled by my desire for Touch ID's return to the iPhone, as Face ID is hailed as one of the fastest and most secure biometric options available. Nevertheless, I find the under-display fingerprint readers present in many Android devices, including the S23 Ultra, to be both satisfying and reliable. It seems unnecessary to abandon a feature like Touch ID entirely, especially when it could coexist with newer technologies.

Subsection 1.2.1: The S Pen's Appeal

I often encounter strong opinions about the S Pen on YouTube, with enthusiasts defending its utility. While I personally regard the S Pen as somewhat gimmicky, I acknowledge its uniqueness and the fun features it offers, such as the remote camera shutter. Even if I don’t use it often, it's nice to have the option available.

Section 1.3: Camera Design Choices

Recently, a friend questioned whether I viewed the iPhone’s Dynamic Island as a gimmick. In my opinion, Apple’s decision to incorporate numerous sensors and cameras at the top of the display can seem excessive. I would favor a more streamlined design, like the pinhole camera on the S23 Ultra, which feels more practical.

Section 1.4: Display Quality Comparison

If you haven't yet experienced a Samsung S-series display, I encourage you to do so. The richness and vibrancy of the S23 Ultra's display are impressive and far surpass what the iPhone offers. While the iPhone screen is certainly sharp and bright, the S23 Ultra's screen creates a more immersive experience, enhancing my overall usage.

Chapter 2: Conclusion

There's a prevalent trend among tech reviewers where they claim to switch from iPhone to Android devices, and it often garners significant attention. However, I view smartphones simply as tools—remarkable tools, but tools nonetheless. I haven’t fully transitioned to the S23 Ultra, as I still utilize both iOS and Android daily. That said, I find myself reaching for the S23 Ultra more frequently than the iPhone 14 Pro Max, marking a notable shift in my preferences.
